Dugout Canoe places on web

Christmas is a nice time to be spent working on websites ;) Have created some corners and rooms for dugout canoe enthusiasts: On Youtube there is now a growing collection of videos on logboat building and paddling . At the Flickr , similar group was created two months ago, and there are 16 people at the moment sharing their 40 pictures on dugout canoes . The ancient dugout boat in Soomaa and elsewhere in Estonia

Research director of the Open Air Museum, Heiki Pärdi , wrote an article on the ancient dugout boat, which has served as one of the main means of travel in Soomaa. Application of Soomaa dugout canoe culture to UNESCO

The civic initiative „Soomaa dugout canoe to UNESCO“ launched in October 2018 has reached a new milestone – work has begun on the preparation of the application to nominate Soomaa haabjas (dugout canoe) culture to the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage in need of urgent safeguarding. Led by the Estonian Dugout Canoe Society, the application will be completed by December 2019, thus enabling submission of the application to UNESCO in March 2020. Development of the application is supported by the Estonian Folk Culture Centre from Estonia’s regional culture programme. The formal proposal to nominate Soomaa dugout canoe culture to UNESCO’s list of intangible cultural heritage was made by Estonian Dugout Canoe Society NGO and URALIC Centre for Indigenous Peoples NGO in October 2018 to Estonia’s Minister of Culture Indrek Saar . The proposal was driven by the wish to contribute to the long-term preservation of Soomaa dugout canoe-building techniques and the dugout canoe
