Vepsian logboats

We had two trips to Vepsia in 2005. Vepses are Fenno-Ugrians, speak Vepsian language which is related to Estonian and Finnish. Vepses live in Russia (Republic of Karelia, Leningrad and Vologda oblast)

First trip was in June. Our aim was to visit vepsian villages located near Ojat River, and find out about logboats. Such boats have been survived in Estonia and we was optimisticly expecting, that we will meet some men in Vepsia, who still are building and using logboats. And we was right!
We had great luck to meet three man in Ladva village who had built logboats.

Such boats are often used on the lakes for fishing.

One of vepsians , Vassili Sofromov agreed to built one logboat together with us in coming autumn.

So, we was back in Ladva at the end of September, 2005.
The boat building in Vepsa and in Estonia differs a great bit in many details.
