Log boat is the oldest boat-type of Finno-Ugric tribes and the forefather of the present day plank-boat. Estonia is considered the western border of the logboat occurrence area. Several peoples in Siberia and the Americas also use boats made of one tree trunk. Logboat is called dugout in English, haabjas in Estonian, haapio in Finnish, äsping in Swedish, dolbljonka in Russian, einbaum in German, monoxylon in Creek.
